Mental Health Treatment

FCFR provides treatment for any and all Mental Heath Disorders for both Adult and Adolescents.

Adult Mental Health Treatment (18+)

At FCFR we can treat all types of mental health conditions, and because FCFR is a medical and behavioral facility we are able to treat mental health whether or not the patient has ever used substances. We have a license with the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) that permits us to treat primary mental health diagnoses. This coupled with our triple board psychiatrist makes us uniquely equipped to treat our patients, resulting in the most successful outcomes.

There are many types and levels of mental health disorders and we treat all of them. To name some, there are:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Schizoaffective Disorder
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Adolescent Mental Health Treatment (Teens 13-17)

Most  treatment centers don’t treat teens because they think it is too difficult or not profitable enough. At Family Center for Recovery in West Palm Beach, we believe every teen is worth saving.

Any treatment should start with a thorough psychiatric evaluation, ideally conducted by an addiction psychiatrist, who identifies the severity of the illness as well as the likely additional psychiatric diagnoses such as mood disorders (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder), anxiety disorders (e.g. Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder), psychotic disorders (Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder), Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and the developing personality disorders. Less than 1/3 of adolescents admitted to substance use treatment facilities who have other psychiatric illnesses receive treatment for those illnesses.

At Family Center for Recovery, all of our adolescents and teens receive a thorough evaluation before placement in our residential treatment program.

In addition, the family dynamics should be evaluated to develop a thorough understanding of those factors that are playing a role in inadvertently maintaining the illnesses. Too often, family members intend to help the adolescent suffering psychiatric illness, but engage in dynamics which prevent the actual help needed. Making excuses for the adolescent’s behavior, minimizing the severity of choices being made by the adolescent, providing ongoing rewards for the adolescent who is repeatedly making unhealthy decisions all help to maintain the illnesses. All of the serious health risks associated with adolescent mental health issues magnify the need to get the adolescent into treatment as soon as possible.
